You meant to be direct.
They experienced you as dismissive.
You meant to move quickly.
They experienced you as impatient.
You meant to create accountability.
They experienced you as controlling.
Here's the uncomfortable truth:
Your intention can be good, and your impact can still require your attention.
And some of our greatest leadership risks live in the space between the two.
This week on Lena Speaks
The conversation is about a question every leader, and honestly, every human being, needs to be willing to ask:
Does the way people experience me match the way I believe I'm showing up?
We tend to judge ourselves by what we meant.
But other people don't experience our intentions.
They experience our communication.
Our decisions.
Our reactions.
Our presence.
Our patterns.
And sometimes those tell a different story.
Three Questions Worth Asking Yourself.
I use three lenses to help people examine the way they're showing up:
INTERNAL: Self-Awareness
How am I showing up?
EXTERNAL: Impact on Others
How am I being experienced?
LEGACY: Your Lasting Impact
What am I leaving behind?
These aren't questions you answer once.
They're lenses you return to when leadership, communication, relationships or life begin to feel misaligned.
And I've spent enough time working with leaders to know this:
Awareness matters. But awareness without action changes very little.
That's why I created The Authentic Encounter.
Over the years, these questions have become an important part of the conversations I facilitate with leaders, teams and organizations.
I wanted to create something that would allow you to continue that encounter, even when I wasn't in the room.
So today, I'm officially introducing:
The Authentic Encounter: A Guided Reflection Journal on Self, Relationships & Legacy
This isn't another notebook designed to sit on your desk.
It's a guided experience designed to help you slow down, notice your patterns, examine your impact and intentionally decide what happens next.
Inside, you'll work through:
Internal → External → Legacy
And then move from:
Awareness → Action → Transformation
Through your own 90-Day Transformation Plan.
You'll also find four exclusive companion videos throughout the journal where I continue the conversation with you.

You can have the title.
The experience.
The accomplishments.
The responsibility.
And still have something to learn about the way people experience you.
I know I do.
That's why this work matters to me.
The Authentic Encounter isn't about becoming someone different.
It's about becoming more intentional about the person people are already encountering.
So whether you begin with the podcast conversation or decide to go deeper with the journal, I hope you'll start with one question:
Does the way people experience me match the way I believe I'm showing up?
Don't rush the answer.
Your next encounter starts within.
